Journey to La paz Bolivia to secure Thai Visa

Heading down into La Paz Bolivia
Bullet dodged.  After we were able to resolve the ID mix-up, things went along pretty well.  Yes our Yellow fever vaccine record which we needed for the international certificate appeared in 10 minutes after a 3 dollar tip as opposed to the 24 hours it shoulda taken, but all in all preparations moving along.  Next stop La Paz to go to the Thai consulate and apply for a visa.

The kinda bus you want to take for any overnight long hall in Bolivia

Since the trip was basically a wasted day, we decided that I should solo the trip and save even more money by taking a night sleeper bus for the 8 hour journey.  These buses called "Leito" are 3 seats across and are quite comfortable.  In my opinion they are as good as business class airplane seats.  Although you are not perfectly horizontal, You are pretty damn close.  The only ick factor, and its not the first time,  is the fact that there is always at least one vocal person who doesn't want to catch a cold and will howl and moan if you dare crack a window.  This causes a sub tropical climate to begin to occur in the bus. The first symptoms are the windows fogging up  followed by streaks of water beads rolling down them. This is just the calm before the storm.   in the early hours you will be awakened by what feels like random raindrops wrenched loose from the water droplets formed above your head on the ceiling.  Word of warning, when reclined in the horizontal position with each pothole you are playing a game of chicken with passengers breath turned into water falling dangerously close to your mouth.   a large brimmed hat comes in very handy.  This green house effect doesn't always occur but don't say I didn't warn you if it does.

Well after that lovely description whats a journey like this cost? 13 usd there and 6 usd back rain included.  If you want to assure a good seat book early but if you want to score a deal in this case half off for the return booked 20 minutes before departure, then show up at the terminal and book the next bus out.  In an effort to fill the bus you will be offered a deal.  Be careful using this strategy when you are close to the last buses of the night.  As far as which company, Bolivar is the largest and best company out there in my opinion, but there are several competitors I wouldn't shy of taking.

Having arrived early I decided to walk to the Thai consulate.  This began a 13k walk from the center of town down to the southern side of the valley and the posh side of town.   Over all the walk was pretty awesome and except for a lot of stairs no biggie.  Have me walk back up however and that would be another story.
Zona San Miguel La Paz Bolivia
La Paz is a different creature from most of Bolivia, especially the south side as it is more international, with nice cars and diplomatic plates.  I love it so I will dedicate a blog to it later as it deserves its own space.
